Should you buy Laptop from the US (and ship it to Israel)?
Should you buy Laptop from the US (and ship it to Israel)?
Why is it worth it?
💻 Most of the time, the price is cheaper
than buying in Israel, sometimes even more than 10%
💻 In addition, the dollar is weaker than the shekel now... so if you pay from your Israeli bank, debit, or credit card... your money will go further! (Edit: the exchange rate has since changed)
💻 There is a much bigger selection of computers and options for upgrades and configurations (RAM, CPU, SSD, GPU, for example)
💻 Almost all PCs, from North America, come with a Windows license (But in Israel, many cheaper options do not include this).
💻 There are many brands that
have international warranties that work in Israel. It's always worth confirming first (if possible).
💻 They have an amazing
warranty and customer service!
For anyone looking for a laptop.. don't forget there is a free
shipping option (US Only)!
Take a peek here: https://amzn.to/3Cp31AZ (US) or
So what do you do after getting your laptop?
You should purchase a Mickey Mouse Cable (Extension Wall Cord Plug EU) that connects to a Laptop and you can put the cable (provided with the product) away.
Note that some desktops don't support dual voltage (110V-220V), so please check the power supply unit before proceeding if you are going that route.
And it only costs 10 shekels. For example https://ksp.co.il/item/7922-7499
Hebrew Keyboard:
Obviously, you won't get a Hebrew keyboard (if you
buy a computer from the US or UK). Some people don’t even need it.
But whoever wants can engrave letters on the keyboard in
Hebrew, it costs around 100 NIS (voids warranty)
Or you can buy stickers for about 20 NIS like these: https://amzn.to/3EtWFB4 or https://ksp.co.il/?appkey=7922&txt_search=%D7%9E%D7%93%D7%91%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%AA%20%D7%A2%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%AA
Import Deposit Fees/VAT:
On purchases over $75 (on the item alone, not including shipping), you will have to pay VAT of 17%. Luckily, on this site... we know what we will have to pay ahead of time, and there are no additional charges after this fee... Learn more about it here

I was comparing prices on Lenovo Thinkpad and Ideapad laptops this week between (1) Amazon US with free shipping and (2) local deals on Zap.co.il. Even with sale prices in the US, I found very little difference in price; sometimes the Israeli price was slightly lower. It's better to buy in Israel and get Hebrew on the keyboard (stickers don't last) and be assured of a local guarantee.
ReplyDeleteYou can always get your keyboard etched or use an external keyboard... also there are many gel covers for macs which have hebrew too!
DeleteLastly, there are other retailers in the US besides the sites you mentioned.
