Surprising things that ship free to Israel on Amazon

I have found some funny and surprising items that one wouldn't expect to actually ship here for free! 

As you may already know that amazon has a free shipping promotion to Israel with a $49 minimum order just of eligible items. Additionally, there is a VAT exemption on orders below $75 which gives us a little wiggle room to place our orders and save on that fee that we would otherwise have.

I used the FreeShippingFilter to help me find most  of the items below.


Corelle Dish Sets are a true staple of our Facebook group and a top item. In terms of weight and fragility, I am amazed at how the sellers pull this feat off. Some of the sets weight over 4 kilograms (9 pounds). Unfortunately, some dishes may get broken during delivery but thankfully the customer service was helpful and issued a refund as soon as we reached out.

Weighted Blankets are another trending category with some weighing around 9 kilograms (20 pounds). I honestly have no clue how they could send these to Israel and still turn a profit (with the hefty freight costs).

Shockingly, I found workout equipment that ship free, these will surely give the mailman a workout!

Official sets from LEGO are hard to come by due to licensing and distribution rights issues. I still was able to find some sets from 3rd party sellers (potentially at a markup above MSRP, When writing this article, I tried to price compare to find sets that are actually cheaper). 

TV and Monitors, this one was quite baffling. Note that some of the smart tv aspects (I.E Roku) are not supported in Israel. I am not sure that I would recommend shipping something like this would be the best idea or even buying from abroad... Issues could arise with the tax and import authority for several different reasons... if there is a warranty issue, it wouldn't be practical to have it shipped all the way back to the US either.
On top of that, I did check the manuals and they said these support dual voltage (for use in North America as well as Israel)... With that being said, you may need a new/special cable and not just an adapter. 

Monitors (some are actually VAT Free): 
TVs: If I  was on the fence about advising someone to buy a monitor from abroad, I definitely would not recommend actually buying one of these. It still makes the cut for the blog post due to how absurd it would be to get a 32 Inch TV from the US shipped especially for you on a plane... and the value of the ones I found are iffy at best. If you want to see them anyways:

Desks are another baffling item on this list. Even if they ship it in parts, it still takes up a significant amount of space and decent amount of weight. I cannot vouch for the quality and lifespan of these 


Consumables


Coffee Filters: Drip coffee is less popular in Israel, as most people favor Nespresso, French press, or Instant Coffee (נמס). On top of that, you can buy filters in bulk from a good brand (some even has a hechsher). They take up a lot of physical space but do not weight a lot. We have ordered filters on multiple occasions and are happy. 

Melitta filters are certified by the OU too!

Mouthwash takes up a decent amount of shipping volume and weight. Interestingly, the ones that ship free tend not to have any alcohol content (ideal for kids)


Deodorant and Antiperspirant are nice to have, especially when you get the American sized sticks (which are hard to find for sale in Israel). If I didn't look, I wouldn't have expected these to ship free. 

Women:
Honorable mentions:

  • Shampoo, Body Wash, Conditioner - Israeli water is harder than the water in the US... and therefore these products are formulated differently
  • Computer Cases - Only 1 or 2 listings looked relevant
  • Yoga mats are a dime a dozen

Amazon usually uses air freight to deliver packages to Israel, either sending packages via a carrier service such as UPS, FEDEX, DHL or they contract with a commercial airline and pay for air freight to Israel. Depending on the service, they could be charged by volumetric weight or actual weight...
